However, what we witnessed last week could merely have been these two setting the stage for a cunning game of chess where both players have their own agendas.
Ava has plenty of reasons to want to cozy up to a successful attorney with money right now — given she barely has any and certainly doesn’t have a man in her life.
As much as she enjoys pretending the single life leaves her feeling empowered, she’s been showing her true colors to Ric a bit too much for him to fall for that act.
Likewise, they’re both well aware that Ric is just as ostracized from Port Charles society. Might these two be the perfect pair?

Ava is always one to stir the pot, and recently she found herself in an unexpectedly intimate moment with Ric. It was innocent enough — with Ric showing Ava a potential new home for her and her daughter, Avery Corinthos (Ava and Grace Scarola).
But as they toured the apartment, the chemistry between them seemed to become undeniable. In a moment that could only be described as charged, Ric leaned in, and Ava, perhaps caught in the moment or playing her own game, reciprocated his kiss.
Was this a genuine moment of connection, or was Ava simply doing what she does best — using her charm to manipulate her situation?

Ava has been facing financial ruin, and she might see Ric not just as a potential romantic interest but as her ticket out of her current predicament.
Ava could be leveraging Ric’s obvious affection to secure his legal services for free — even though he had no issue with yanking that check from her latest customer right out of her hand last week.
Still, Ava is no stranger to using her allure to get what she needs, and with her back against the wall, calculating her next move might be easier than calculating her debt.
She could have Ric eating out of the palm of her hand, but at what cost? Mixing business with pleasure in Port Chuck rarely ends well for anyone involved.

Still, we shouldn’t underestimate Ric. He’s no pawn in this game. Ric has his own history with Ava, and let’s not forget his complicated relationship with his half-brother, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), who happens to be Avery’s father.
Could Ric’s move towards Ava be a strategic step to get closer to her daughter — a move that would certainly grate on Sonny’s every nerve?
This could be Ric’s chance for revenge, or perhaps, a way to assert his dominance over Sonny by influencing the life of his child. If Ric is playing Ava, he’s playing for high stakes — not just for love or lust, but for control and power in the ongoing feud with his brother.
We’ve been waiting for his real reason for sticking around in town to surface. Is this it? Only time will tell if this kiss will lead to a new alliance or ignite an old war.
