General Hospital Spoilers: What Does ‘Hell Has Frozen Over’ Mean For New Brennan?

General Hospital: Jack Brennan, (now Chris McKenna)

General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal Tensions were rising between Jack Brennan, (now Chris McKenna), and Carly Spencer (Laura Wright), when the character was suddenly recast. Fans were not pleased with the change, but one viewer surprisingly remarked that “hell has frozen over” for them; continue reading to discover the reason behind this unexpected reaction.

Fans Revolted Against The Brennan Recast

In December 2023, Charles Mesure stepped into the role of WSB chief Jack Brennan, igniting a spark between Brennan and Carly that had fans eagerly rooting for their romance.

Just as viewers began to invest in their relationship, Mesure revealed his decision to depart from the show after a year in the role, seeking new ventures. With Brennan entangled in a pivotal storyline, the producers opted to recast the character, bringing in Chris McKenna to take the reins.

Soap opera aficionados may remember McKenna from his early days as a young Joey Buchanan on One Life To Live, joining fellow OLTL alumni Josh Kelly and Amanda Setton.

This, however, was a role he took on at just 12 years old, long before Josh and Amanda played brother and sister Cutter Wentworth and Kimberly Andrews.

Why Did Charles Mesure Leave?

Many soap fans were surprised by Charles Mesure’s choice to exit the show, especially since his character was very well-liked. One fan on Twitter suggested that a change in Brennan’s story might have influenced the actor’s decision. Recently, Jack Brennan brought Carly’s daughter, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), into the WSB intelligence agency; some viewers were not pleased with how he threatened Joss.

Carly will likely be upset when she learns about her daughter’s new job-however, despite this fan speculation, it appears that the storyline change was not the reason for Charles Mesure’s departure.

He was said to be dissatisfied with his workload and wanted to explore other acting opportunities.

Hell Has Frozen Over For One Fan

Some fans were not initially convinced by Chris McKenna as Jack Brennan-the character lost his accent after the role was recast. However, one viewer expressed their change of opinion on social media, stating, “Hell has frozen over. I’m a NewB (New Brennan) Convert” in a Reddit post.

They admitted they were hesitant about the recast but now feel that Chris McKenna has won them over.

The viewer also mentioned, “I’m ready for this slow burn with Carly to ignite!!” They are not the only one feeling this way, as other fans have shared similar thoughts.

The new Brennan is doing a good job, but I just don’t care for the character no matter who is put in the role. The character definitely can’t be trusted and with Sidwell also on canvas, just how many bad/perhaps in some instances good, or bad/bad characters can writers pen successfully at the same time. Oh, I forgot about the Drew character who is also holding the bad candle brightly. With these characters on canvas, all viewers can expect is mayhem, chaos, and problems for the few “good characters” residing in PC.
