The issue lies in Sonny’s tendency to jump to conclusions rather than directly addressing Ric, who would likely be honest about the situation if Sonny confronted him.
Instead, Sonny has been expressing his frustrations to ADA Justine Turner (Nazneen Contractor) and feels that Ric has squandered his last opportunity to mend their relationship.

This would provide Ric with another motive to keep things under wraps, but at least it would revolve around art rather than a sinister scheme against Sonny! On the other hand, it’s possible that Sidwell isn’t involved at all, and Ethan simply misinterpreted the situation when he thought Ric was sending him a message via Ava.
