General Hospital Spoilers: Remembering Luke Spencer And The Legacy Of Anthony Geary
General Hospital spoilers and updates tease it’s time to go as the ABC soap honors the legacy of the late Anthony Geary as Luke Spencer. Tony played the iconic character from 1978-2017, with a few gaps in between before his final exit from Port Charles in 2017.
All Memories Lead Back To Luke Spencer
This Friday, every memory leads back to Luke Spencer. Candles are lit in remembrance of both the character and Anthony Geary.
At the pier where Luke walked off into eternity at the end of Tony’s last episode, his still living best friends and family hold a goodbye gathering.
Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), Carly Spencer (Laura Wright), Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot), Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst), Laura Collins (Genie Francis), and Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening) stand, all but Sonny holding cups of something.
Several floating votive candles are in the water before them, under white paper bags. Elizabeth was Lucky Spencer’s (Jonathan Jackson) first love and she likely stands in for him, although we don’t see Ethan Lovett (last played by James Ryan), his son with Holly Sutton (Emma Samms).

Luke Spencer Was Killed On The Show In 2022
Although his portrayer, Anthony Geary only recently passed away on December 14, 2024, on the show, Luke was killed in a cable car accident thanks to Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) in Austria.
According to previous General Hospital episode recaps, his remains were later found, and his widow Tracy had him cremated and brought back to Port Charles to scatter his ashes.
They had a memorial service which Jennifer Smith (Holly Gagnier) crashed, claiming also to be a widow of Luke, much to the disgust of Laura, in particular.
This was in January 2022, and she was arrested several months later and remanded to Steinmauer after a memorable chase by Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) in disguise.
Valentin framed her for the theft of the Ice Princess necklace, and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) were there also, looking for him.
It’s Time To Say Goodbye-And Time To Let Go
In the next scenes of the promo, Lulu tearfully looks at a photo of her father and says, “Hi, Dad” while a shot of Sonny is shown next.
Sonny is remembering when he and Luke met-there is a flashback of that original scene. Luke asks, “Who are you”-and he answers,” Sonny Corinthos”; Sonny had arrived in Port Charles to take over Frank Smith’s (Joe Cortese) who was Jennifer’s father, territory.
Next up is a weeping Laura, who says, “Thank you for the love of a lifetime”, and they are shown dancing in the Triple L diner they ran while on the run from Frank.
Then a shot of Luke by himself is shown, with a voiceover by Geary, “It’s time to let go” from his last episode which recently aired shortly after he passed away in real life.
