Cates blackmailed Jason by threatening to have Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) arrested for RICO violations which could carry a 20 year prison sentence.
Jason was forced to let his friends and family believe he was dead this whole time while he worked to honor his deal with Cates! Jason’s assignment was to take down the Pikeman Group.
General Hospital Spoilers – Valentin Cassadine introduced Sonny Corinthos to the Pikeman Group!
The Pikeman Group first made their presence known in Port Charles when Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) acted as a go-between between the organization and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Bernard).
Sonny, as the mob boss in Port Charles, has control of the docks in Port Charles that Pikeman wanted to use for their own purposes. As it turns out, Pikeman is in the business of supplying illegal arms to the highest bidder.
Sonny agreed, and he worked with Pikeman for about a year before ending their association.
GH Spoilers – Dex Heller was a mole in Sonny Corinthos’ Organization
During this time, Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) decided to make his step-father pay for cheating on his mother, Carly. To that end, he hired Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) to infiltrate Sonny’s organization.
Dex was able to obtain a recording of one Pikeman’s Shipments being received by Sonny’s employees. Knowing this information could put Sonny away, Michael ended up giving the proof to Carly who destroyed the thumb drive with the recording.
Dex was also told to destroy any other copies, including what was in the cloud.
General Hospital Spoilers – Damian Spinelli will be given an impossible task!
Carly recently told Jason about the recording and he seemed quite interested in finding out where the evidence is today.
Even though it was destroyed, Jason may have a way to get the evidence back, And even though it would incriminate Sonny as well as Pikeman, Jason may be willing to sacrifice Sonny to save Carly, especially now that he’s heard how Sonny’s behaved these past couple years.
That’s where Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) comes in. As viewers know, Spinelli is skilled computer hacker and might just be able to retrieve Dex’s recording from his cloud.
It certainly won’t be easy, but it could be the first step for Jason to be free of his obligation to Cates! And Cates might be happy enough putting Sonny away that he will free Jason from his obligation.

Even if Jason gets the evidence I don’t believe he wants to use it to hurt Sonny. I think he may be trying to see who’s involved.
I can't imagine Jason hurting Sonny like that - no matter how much of a jerk he's being. Jason is loyal to a fault, and he loves Sonny's kids, too. I can see him making a deal with Cates and Scorpio to give them the info to bring down Pikeman, but only if they agree to give Sonny complete immunity (and put it in writing).
