General Hospital alum Martha Byrne stepped into a role as an author and Maura West (Ava Jerome), shouted out her book, In the Interest of Justice: One Woman’s Fight Against a Weaponized Justice Department to Save Her Husband.
The Shout-Out
Martha created a huge prime time TV career, but GH fans will remember her for her rather brief role as Andrea Floyd in 2009. Apart from knowing her from the ABC daytime drama, Maura thinks of her as a good friend. So, she took to Instagram this week to shout out to the memoir. Some fans didn’t know that Byrne had written a book.
In her caption, Maura West said:
I just finished reading this deeply personal account of my friend Martha’s tireless fight to bring her husband home where he belongs. Martha and Mike McMahon are what love is all about. @marthabyrneofficial, you are the most courageous woman I know. ♥️ #bringmikehome.
Some folks remember Martha discussing her story about her husband with Maurice Benard on his State of Mind podcast.
‘GH’ Fans React
In the comments section, one fan seemed very grateful to hear about Martha Byrne’s book. They said, “Wow, will have to check this out.”
Here are a few more reactions:
- I want to read.
- Saw her on State of Mind. Have to pick up the book.
- Wow I must look this up. She is one of my favorites from As the World Turns. Besides you.
- I watched Martha talk a bit about this on Moe’s “State of Mind;” cannot wait to read all about it in her own words!
Martha also turned up in the comments and thanked her General Hospital friend for shouting out the book that was published in June this year. She said, “Thank you so much Maura. Xoxo.”
Meanwhile others wondered what the book was about.
What Is The Book About?
Between Martha’s chats with Maurice Benard, and the synopsis by Barnes & Noble, quite a lot is known about the terrifying experience that Byrne and her husband Mike McMahon went through. The book opens with a shocking account of a pre-dawn FBI raid on October 28, 2020, when Byrne’s husband, retired NYPD officer Michael McMahon, was arrested.
“It was a living nightmare,” Byrne said in the book, which documents her five-year battle to prove his innocence. McMahon stood accused of working for the Chinese government. Notably, Byrne insists the arrest and accusation were driven by politics. Plus, she believes the case became “a fight not only for my husband’s freedom, but for our faith in the American justice system.”
Part memoir and part exposé, In the Interest of Justice takes readers inside what Byrne calls a government campaign “fueled by corruption and intimidation.” Through it all, she shares how family, prayer, and determination kept her going.
