It’s a sad day for General Hospital fans and the end of a legacy on the ABC soap. Late Sunday night showrunner Frank Valentini took to social media and revealed that cast member Leslie Charleson had passed away at 79 years old. Leslie Charleson’s last scenes on General Hospital aired in mid 2023. There were rumblings in the daytime world that her health was failing and she was having trouble getting around on set, but no one actually confirmed it. Charles joined General Hospital as Dr. Monica Quartermaine in 1977, and was the longest running cast member left standing.
General Hospital Loses Monica Quartermaine Actress
Before Charleson began playing Monica Quartermaine she appeared on several other TV shows in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Some of those popular series include As The World Turns, Love Is A Many Splendored Things, Kung Fu, Happy Days, The Wild Wild West, and The Rookies.
Frank Valentini took to Facebook and shared this heartfelt message with his followers and GH fans:
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my dear friend and colleague, Leslie Charleson. Her enduring legacy has spanned nearly 50 years on General Hospital alone and, just as Monica was the heart of the Quartermaines, Leslie was a beloved matriarch of the entire cast and crew. I will miss our daily chats, her quick wit and incredible presence on set. On behalf of everyone at General Hospital, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to her loved ones during this difficult time.”
