General Hospital Alum Kimberly McCullough Talks What It Was Like “Growing Up” On Television

General Hospital (GH) spoilers remind long-term fans that little Robin Scorpio-Drake, played by Kimberly McCullough, grew up before their very eyes on the daytime drama.

Robin entered the Port Charles picture in 1985 at the age of seven, until about 2000, and returned to the role from 2004-2018. She also made an appearance in 2021.

McCullough recently jumped on social media to help paint a picture of working on television as she evolved from a little girl to a teenager and then an adult.

GH Alum Kimberly McCullough Instagram Post

Kimberly posted a photo on Instagram recently, with her friends Toni and Pam. In the caption she wrote, “I’m often asked what it was like ‘growing up on television’.

Although General Hospital was a big part of my life as I grew up it wasn’t the most important part of my life. My focus was on whoever I was crushing on at the time and what me and my friends were going to do that weekend.

Riding our bikes through the neighborhood, late night chats on the phone and long bus rides to the beach… that’s where I grew up.”

She concluded by saying, “Been so nice to connect with old friends this summer and be proud of how much we’ve all grown. Love you Toni and Pam. (heart emoji)”

GH Alum Kimberly McCullough Escaped Being SORASed

The interesting thing about Robin Scorpio-Drake is that the character and actress grew up together, hand-in-hand, and escaped soap opera rapid aging syndrome (SORAS).

While some child characters can be recast, and with this comes a quick age growth, GH does tend to try and allow both original actors and characters to grow at the same pace.

Robin isn’t the only example of this, Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson) is another, and Charlotte Cassadine (Scarlett Fernandez).

While SORAS is a thing in daytime drama (and GH), when characters escape this fate, it allows audiences to grow much more connected to them and their storylines!
