Cameron Mathison Shares Bittersweet Update As Daughter Leila Leaves

General Hospital (GH) star Cameron Mathison shared a social media post this week that came with a crying face emoji, and the man who plays the role of Drew Cain in the ABC soap also said something that might offset his heartache. Read on for more details.

A Photo of Leila

On Thursday, Cameron took to Instagram and shared a photo of him hugging his daughter, Leila. General Hospital fans know that he and his girl are close, and often, he shares pics of them together when they get time together.

She’s been studying in Paris, France, so many ABC fans understand how precious time together can be. And the separation was the focal point in his caption.

A Bittersweet Caption

Cameron Mathison wrote, “And just like that, her summer home from college comes to an end😢.”

Then he told his ABC fans that he felt “So grateful for every lazy morning, every laughing fit, every workout, every Alfred’s iced latte, her annual bday at Disney, every walk in nature, and mostly just waking up and knowing she was home❤️.”

There are two upsides to the sad story though, because he also told his GH followers that he still has another month with his son, Lucas, at home.

The other news that might offset the sadness of parting is that something changed for Leila. Mathison added, “Leila is off to NYC to finish her college degree after two years in Paris🗽.”

Fans React

In the comments section, some people tried to comfort Mathison, and one of them pointed out the fact that NYC is much closer than France.

They wrote, ‘You will miss her so much BUT you will get to see her way more when you make your trips to NY to be on GMA!!!! Right????❤️’

In the reply, the actor responded by saying, “Yes!!!”

Here are a few reactions from the discussion:

  • “Looks like an amazing summer! At least she’s back stateside in NYC now!”
  • “I’m wishing your daughter all the best! Go out into the world Leila, and change the world!”
  • “Have a wonderful year Leila! She will be back for the Holidays before you know it!”

Kids & Co-Parenting

Cameron’s ex-wife, Vanessa Mathison, has also spoken about the difficulty of spending time away from their children. Earlier this year, she reflected on spending Christmas alone while Lucas and Leila celebrated with their dad.

Their experience illustrates another complication of co-parenting adult children: holidays and limited family time must still be divided.

But as one follower pointed out from her own experience, ‘My daughter moved to Utah for school 4 years ago. Graduated and decided to stay there…..Beautiful place, but I miss her EVERYDAY! Hard to let them go and exciting to watch them grow!’
