General Hospital (GH) star Cameron Mathison might be despized as Drew Cain on the ABC daytime soap. However, he seems to be very much a family man with a sweet personality away from the screen. And this week, he showed how well he and his ex, Vanessa Mathison get along these days.
The Family Man
Like all actors, particularly those in soaps who work hectic hours at a fast pace, downtime with family matters for Cameron.
When he can, he spends time with his kids, Lucas and Leila. Christmas, they went to ski in Colorado.
Then during spring break, the real life Drew Cain told his GH fans that he and Leila enjoyed time together in the Canary Islands.
More recently, he shouted out Lucas as well. That came near the end of April when he celebrated a birthday.
The Kids Are Not At Home
The thing is, both of Vanessa and Cameron Mathison’s kids took off and studied overseas. Lucas went to Central Saint Martins in London. Meanwhile, Leila Mathison studies psychology in Paris, Europe.
Both parents obviously miss having the kids around. But they seem to co-parent very well.
Once, Vanessa went on a solo vacation, and that highlighted how hard it can be without the family close by.

In his recent Instagram post, Cameron Mathison shared a sweet pic of Leila with him. Then in his caption, he said, “Paris had her for the year. I’ve got her for the summer. I win.”
In the comments section, Vanessa arrived and quipped, “Sharesies 😏.”
Well, that’s where it got interesting because the General Hospital star responded by writing, “@vanessa.mathison hahahhahahahah, Alwayssssssssss.”
Split But Not Toxic
For fans of Cameron Mathison, it seems like a nice thing to joke so openly with an ex. But, according to Cameron, when they lost their home during the wildfires, it brought a lot of things into perspective.
Loss hits hard, and everyone felt that when hardly anything survived the flames.
In fact, he said that he and Vanessa grew a bit closer after that devastating event.
