General Hospital’s James Patrick Stuart On The Varly Romance – “Who Would’ve Thought …”
General Hospital spoilers note that for months now, Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) has been in an alliance with Valentin Cassadine to bring Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) down.
During this time, some sparks have flown between the two, with the couple doing the deed recently. Now, Valentin’s portrayer, James Patrick Stuart, talks about the romance brewing between the two and what could happen next.
James Patrick Stuart Talks Varly
James Patrick Stuart recently stopped by the “That’s Awesome” podcast, talking about his current General Hospital storyline with co-hosts Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli).
Stuart starts by saying, “It’s one of those things where, ‘Who would have thought?’” – and he’s not wrong. While Carly and Valentin certainly have chemistry, the fact that he almost (accidentally) poisoned her makes it more than interesting that the two have fallen for each other.
The actor also had nothing but praise for his co-star, Laura Wright. Stuart tells Burton and Anderson, “I love how much thought she puts into it and how ultimately everything just sort of gets reduced to what’s really essential.”
He goes on to say, “If you go back and look at it, you realize it’s like, ‘Wow, you guys really got a lot of emotion going. You got a lot of people thinking about stuff.’ And not much was happening. It was just two people kissing each other.”
Stuart adds that he gives Wright all the credit because, “I think the temptation is to just show everything and to do everything. She was like, ‘I think that we can be a little more thoughtful than that.’”
Valentin’s Carly Obsession
Stuart does acknowledge that Valentin is a little too toxic to maintain a “legitimate” romance, even though he does have the capacity to “really love” someone. Fans can look at his past romances with Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) and Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) to verify that.
Still, Stuart maintains that Valentin can get fascinated with a person, which is what’s happening with Carly. He adds that Valentin is surprised at how he can relate to Carly.
As he notes, if Valentin didn’t feel this, “… he would probably be more inclined to just cut and run if he wasn’t strangely obsessed with the woman downstairs!”
With that said, Carly is currently dating Brennan, but there will come a time when the WSB agent realizes he’s been duped by his gal pal, as she’s been working with his enemy.
Stuart states he’s looking forward to Jack’s epiphany on this end, noting, “There’s going to be a ‘come to Jesus’ moment where [Jack] realizes what’s been happening, and what’s that going to be? Who’s going to say what to whom?”
