General Hospital (GH) star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) is a fanatical supporter of the NFL, in particular, the 49ers. On Thursday, he took to social media and gave ‘The Faithful’ a shout-out.
Roots In San Francisco
The family of Maurice has roots in San Francisco, and it seems that being part of ‘The Faithful’ goes back a while. On Instagram, he shared a photo of himself wearing an NFL shirt with number 13.
In his caption, which was apparently edited by his friend Marcus Coloma, the real-life Sonny Corinthos said:
I was born in San Francisco, a huge @sfgiants and @49ers fan. I used to watch with my brother and my father; we used to watch them all—@joemontana, Dwight Clark, @jerryrice. Five Super Bowls, and now we have @brock.purdy13, @fred_warner, @nbsmallerbear, @kyleshanahan_daily, @christianmccaffrey.
Excited, the ABC star added, “I am so proud of what the 49ers have done this year, and guess what? The year is not over!!!”

Of course, it’s no big surprise that Maurice Benard is so passionate about the NFL. He was raised in the Bay Area, and his memories sit with him of the 49ers and Giants. Naturally, he remembers the “Glory Days” of the 1980s with his brother and his late father, Humberto.
Currently, the 49ers get a lot of folks excited because of their amazing win over the Philadelphia Eagles Wild Card Round last weekend. This weekend, on January 17, Maurice’s favorite team plays against the Seattle Seahawks.
Hopefully, the team will take home to the Bay the trophy for the sixth time.

Maurice enjoys sports, and he once had a dream of becoming a professional boxer. Well, General Hospital happened instead. But, that doesn’t stop him from going to the gym with his son Joshua Benard. There, they occasionally spar together.
As the ABC star struggles with depression and anxiety linked to his bipolar, he finds an outlet in sports. You can probably bet all your money on Maurice being glued to this weekend’s game.
