Why Hasn’t General Hospital Offered Any Closure for Austin & Agent Cates’ Murders?
General Hospital (GH) spoilers note that it’s very rare that the soap leaves loose strings when it comes to storylines, especially murders. This is the reason many fans have been wondering why GH hasn’t offered any closure when it comes to two key character deaths.
GH Spoilers: Who Killed Austin Gatlin-Holt?
Austin Gatlin-Holt entered storylines in 2021, but fans found it hard to connect with the character, even though Roger Howarth was in the role. With that said, his family link to criminal Mason Gatlin (Nathanyael Grey), and odd relationship with Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) was intriguing.
Still, things took a turn for the crazy when he helped convince Ava Jerome (Maura West) that Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss) had passed, even though he knew he was alive.
With that said, Austin struck a deal to turn on Cyrus but was later found shot and dead. How is it that no one has cared enough to dig deeper and find out who murdered Austin? After all, he was a Quartermaine! Still, why has the truth about his murder never been revealed, considering Austin’s ties to Cyrus and Nik?
GH Spoilers: No Justice For John “Jagger” Cates
Meanwhile, John “Jagger” Cates (Adam J. Harrington) was far from a hero, and despite his history in Port Charles, he earned far more enemies than friends in Port Charles.
Still, while fans know who shot Agent Cates – looking at you, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) – it was interesting how the storyline was quickly dropped and brushed under the rug.
Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) was initially arrested and spent time in Pentonville, but after the gun she threw over the bridge was retrieved and proved it wasn’t the gun that shot the FBI agent, she was released of all charges.
Which was great for Alexis and her family, but it’s hard to believe that the FBI would simply let go of finding who shot one of their own.
To further thicken the plot, Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) witnessed it all, and Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) lied about “being” with Sonny during the whole thing, acting as an albeit, so it’s insane that the soap didn’t capitalize on the drama by sweeping this storyline under the rug.

In my opinion both demised characters deaths need to be resolved as both story lines were quite odd to begin with and all out of the blue. Guess writers decided they blundered when penning such a story line for both characters and decided to do a GH sweep it under the rug and forget it. Viewers never had a real clue as to who shot Austin, but Jagger is quite a different story. All viewers saw what we felt as Sonny shooting Jagger, but it was also speculated by spoilers that Kristina actually shot Jagger. Whoever disposed of these two characters needs to be resolved regardless of how unimaginative the story will be told. Just allow viewers to have satisfaction of some type of closure.
