General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that on December 19, 1991 Steve Burton debuted on the ABC soap as Jason Quartermaine. These days he’s going by Jason Morgan and a lot has happened in three decades.

Jason originally was a sweet young man, the counter to his bitter brother AJ. His debut was electric, and from the moment that Burton came on camera he owned it. Jason also hinted at what was to come when he slugged AJ for calling him a bastard.
This week the show paid homage to Jason’s past when Q cook Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) asked him about the old photos of him around the mansion, including one in a reindeer sweater. He said that was the old him and in an instant we saw some serious heat between Sasha and Jason.
Today Jason is Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) paid assassin. What caused the huge switch from medical student to mob enforcer? In a word, AJ. Drunk AJ crashed the car he and Jason were in and Jason got amnesia plus a personality transplant.
GH spoilers: Steve Burton Plays Jason Morgan
This is Burton’s third stint at GH. He left for three years to play Dylan MacAvoy on CBS’s The Young and the Restless, returned, then left again after declining to get the network’s mandated COVID-19 vaccine.
He went to Days of our Lives and reprised his first daytime character, Harris Michaels.

He returned in 2024 and somehow fans knew he’d be back. At the time Burton hinted “Maybe one day… I can return and finish my career as Jason Morgan. That would be an honor.”
